The bird symbolises resilience and freedom, while the intricate floral patterns represent harmony in diversity, much like Singapore’s multicultural society. By blending a traditional Batik style with modern acrylic techniques, this piece embodies the balance between tradition and progress, celebrating the beauty of our ever-evolving nation.
About
Jiewei, 36, is a talented Batik artist whose journey has been shaped by resilience and passion. Diagnosed with a learning disability in Primary 2, she left the mainstream school system early but never allowed this to limit her potential. Embracing art as a means of expression, she found her calling in Batik painting. In 2014, Jiewei’s dedication was celebrated when she had the privilege of showcasing her work before Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey.
