By Muhammad Khayr Bin Muhammad Sani, AWWA
This painting by Khayr offers a whimsical and captivating portrayal of a Chinese shophouse, where traditional architecture takes on a surreal, playful twist. The shophouse stands proudly amidst a lively street scene, yet its windows defy convention. Painted in vibrant pastel hues, the building’s irregular windows create a sense of movement and fluidity against its solid structure. Each window curves and bends in unusual ways, stretching and twisting as if caught in a gentle breeze, giving the impression of a building that is alive — almost dancing with its ever-changing surroundings.
