Counting Cats to Sleep

"Counting Cats to Sleep" is a play on the old folklore to counter sleeplessness commonly told to children for it is repetitive and monotonous, making falling asleep seem more enticing. The fluffy cats curl up amongst the wheat fields, depict an inviting and comforting atmosphere to viewers to slowly drift to sleep while the voices of loved ones turn into a murmur and slowly fade out as one falls into a gentle slumber. The black cat stares intently at the viewer, alluring them to join the slumber. Will you?

Tricia Woo is an artist with Schizoaffective Disorder whose early interest in art was shaped by a supportive art teacher who served as an important influence in her development. After a period away from art, she rediscovered her creative practice through her love of cats, finding that photography alone could not fully express her connection to them. Today, she primarily draws animals as a way of expressing her innermost thoughts and emotions.
