By Tan Khee Huat, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
In the golden hush of late afternoon, hands reach gently through the tangle of green vines, seeking the sun-warmed treasures hidden beneath. Ripe tomatoes, round and glowing like little globes of summer, slip free with the softest tug — their skin smooth, their weight just right. Each fruit is a quiet triumph, a gift of soil and sun, patience and care. The air is rich with the scent of earth and promise, and as baskets fill, so too does the heart — with gratitude for simple abundance. Harvesting tomatoes is more than gathering food; it is gathering joy, one ruby-red moment at a time.
About
As the only son, Tan Khee Huat was expected to take over his family’s drink stall business. However, in 1993, a traffic accident left him paralysed from the chest down, altering the future he had once envisioned. With the unwavering support of his wife and family, he adjusted to his new reality. It was through mouth painting that Khee Huat discovered a new form of self-expression, turning adversity into a source of strength. His art now reflects his journey, proving that even the most challenging circumstances can ignite creativity and a renewed sense of purpose.
