By Arshan Nawwaz Bin Muhammad Hendra, AWWA
Arshan’s painting of a Chinese shophouse is bathed in warm, earthy tones, with flashes of orange, green and blue that evoke both a nostalgic and modern-day feel. Through this artwork, Arshan hopes to tell the history of Singapore's Chinatown, from the struggles of the early settlers to the vibrant, multicultural hub it has become today. His work captures the essence of Chinatown as a living, breathing story — its layers of history, culture, and the spirit of the community that has shaped it.
