Along the banks of the Singapore River, a lone bumboat glides through golden waters, just as it did long ago. The sky above, painted in amber and rose, seems to pause before nightfall. In the distance, Raffles Place rises with quiet grace. The skyline, etched in delicate strokes, stands like characters from an old tale, watching over the river that once bustled with trade and hope. Now, in this still moment, time slows. The boat drifts, the river listens, and the city glows — not with steel, but with memory, warmth, and peace. This painting is more than a scene; it’s a feeling — a sense of coming home to something familiar, as if the soul has always known it, even without ever having set foot there.
About
For over six decades, Siang Hoi has transformed silence into visual poetry through his distinctive mixed media artworks. Since learning from a Deaf art teacher at 14, he discovered in painting, its not just a passion, but a profound way to communicate with the world. Now at 75, he continues his artistic practice with the same quiet determination that has defined his journey. Working in a unique blend of watercolour, acrylic, and ink, he breathes life into nostalgic scenes of Singapore's past — from bustling marketplaces to riverside villages.
