By Zhang Kaini, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
In this vibrant and playful still life painting, "Tangerines", showcases oranges in various stages of being peeled: some whole, others curling open to reveal their glistening segments. Zhang employs soft, blended watercolour to craft a dreamy, atmospheric backdrop, allowing the fruit to take centre stage.
Painted in warm, sun-kissed tones, the oranges are rich in detail; their dimpled skin, juicy flesh, and delicate membranes. The composition feels fresh and uplifting, capturing the simple beauty and tactile delight of the everyday.
About
Zhang Kaini was a Mandarin teacher in Singapore before a car accident left her paralysed from the shoulders down. Refusing to be defeated by her circumstances, she taught herself to paint by holding a brush between her teeth. With remarkable focus and determination, she made rapid progress and soon began earning a living through her art. Today, her intricate and expressive paintings of the natural world are highly sought after. As a full-time artist and member of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide (MFPA), Kaini continues to inspire others, especially Person with Disabilities (PWDs), through her resilience and creative spirit.
