The adjective "Sui Generis" is Latin, meaning "one of a kind." That’s how the artist sees his home, Singapore: sui generis, unlike any other place in the world. "Singapore Sui Generis 1" is a diptych where two pieces are placed beside each other; they form a complete art piece, yet each stands strong on its own. This artwork brings to life both old and new icons: the beloved dragon playground, Gardens by the Bay, the Singapore Flyer, skyscrapers, and the hawker culture, now officially listed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is also a portrait of unity: a society diverse and inclusive, growing together. Celebrating Singapore as a garden city, the Supertree’s golden branches stretch outward and wide, symbolising Singapore's bright future, filled with possibilities as Singapore celebrates SG60.
