By Tan Khee Huat, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
Set against the rising cityscape, Singapore’s waterfront stands as a meeting point between past and present. Along the water’s edge, buildings of rich cultural significance stand confidently side by side: From the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall to the elegant dome of the Old Supreme Court. Together, these structures reflect our history and chart Singapore’s transformation from a humble trading port to the vibrant modern metropolis it is today.
About
As the only son, Tan Khee Huat was expected to take over his family’s drink stall business. However, in 1993, a traffic accident left him paralysed from the chest down, altering the future he had once envisioned. With the unwavering support of his wife and family, he adjusted to his new reality. It was through mouth painting that Khee Huat discovered a new form of self-expression, turning adversity into a source of strength. His art now reflects his journey, proving that even the most challenging circumstances can ignite creativity and a renewed sense of purpose.
