By Christina Lau Lay Lian, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
Christina Lau’s Ellison Building at Selegie Road stands with quiet dignity, featuring a two-storey colonial-styled landmark shaped by time and memory. Its gentle curve embraces the street, anchored at either end by semicircular domes that rise like sentinels. Above, the upper balconies sit beneath shaded eaves, recalling a slower, more deliberate rhythm of life.
Represented by soft yellow with green-framed windows and a red-tiled rooftop, the building carries a warm, familiar charm. Its colours shift with the time of the day, transforming its unique charms. Its ground floor is home to a mama shop, a bistro café, a fruit stall, and small eateries, each a part of its evolving story.
About
After a life-changing car accident in 2005 that left her with C6 spinal cord injury, Christina Lau discovered new ways to express herself through art. Despite being paralysed from her chest down and the loss of finger movements, she transformed her journey from Prison Officer to artist, demonstrating remarkable resilience. Through her artwork, she continues to share her unique perspective, proving that creativity knows no physical bounds.
