The Central Fire Station stands as a cornerstone in Singapore’s civil landscape, the oldest of its kind in the country. Located within the Museum Planning Area, its bold red-and-white brickwork and watchful clock tower rise above the gentle fringe of greenery that gathers behind the station, speaking softly through stillness. The building, which now houses the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery, chronicling the evolution of emergency services as the official Museum of Singapore’s Civil Defence Force, was gazetted as a national monument in 1996. In a city of constant change, it endures — grounded, purposeful, and deeply rooted in collective memory.
About
After a life-changing car accident in 2005 that left her with C6 spinal cord injury, Christina Lau discovered new ways to express herself through art. Despite being paralysed from her chest down and the loss of finger movements, she transformed her journey from Prison Officer to artist, demonstrating remarkable resilience. Through her artwork, she continues to share her unique perspective, proving that creativity knows no physical bounds.
