By Christina Lau Lay Lian, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
A historical landmark in Singapore’s landscape, Arab Street, shaped by centuries of trade, faith, and craftsmanship, holds a unique charm not in grandeur, but in the details: finely embroidered fabrics cascading from shopfronts, brass incense burners catching the light, and aged facades lined with quiet character. Rich in culture and framed by striking architecture, the area reflects a deep lineage of influence, where local materials and colonial-era structures continue to coexist. At its core, the neighbourhood remains a lively hub for commerce and exchange, a distinctive enclave that endures as a vital part of the city's cultural tapestry.
About
After a life-changing car accident in 2005 that left her with C6 spinal cord injury, Christina Lau discovered new ways to express herself through art. Despite being paralysed from her chest down and the loss of finger movements, she transformed her journey from Prison Officer to artist, demonstrating remarkable resilience. Through her artwork, she continues to share her unique perspective, proving that creativity knows no physical bounds.
