Cat's Suggestion

For Shifa, community cats represent the playful side of people who come together to take care of them. From naming the cats to preparing toys and treats, the act of caring for a feline invites creativity and playing together. In a similar vein, this artwork depicts a cat peering curiously at the toys beside (dice, marbles, and capteh) which are placed in pots like plants. A man gazes at the cat from below with a smile, as if playing a guessing game on which toy the cat will pick.

Since discovering art at the age of eleven, Shifa' Azman has been inspired by the colourful worlds of anime, cartoons and illustrated books. An artist with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), she draws creative influence from an eclectic mix of sources, including music, poetry, fashion, food and popular culture. Her curiosity and openness to different forms of expression shape a creative practice that is rich in references and personal meaning. Through art, Shifa brings together these varied inspirations to create works that reflect her imagination, interests and evolving artistic voice.
