This painting presents a quiet riverside moment, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese water towns. A pale morning light spreads across the canvas, tinting the sky and water with translucent pastels. The surface of the river lies still, catching traces of colour like silk stretched in reflection. On the banks, flowering trees bloom in soft clusters of pink and white, their blossoms drifting gently through the air. Timber-framed houses with tiled, sweeping roofs edge the scene, their silhouettes softened by the early haze. Zhang builds an atmosphere that feels hushed and meditative — a fleeting moment of stillness held between land, water, and sky.


About

Zhang Kaini was a Mandarin teacher in Singapore before a car accident left her paralysed from the shoulders down. Refusing to be defeated by her circumstances, she taught herself to paint by holding a brush between her teeth. With remarkable focus and determination, she made rapid progress and soon began earning a living through her art. Today, her intricate and expressive paintings of the natural world are highly sought after. As a full-time artist and member of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide (MFPA), Kaini continues to inspire others, especially Person with Disabilities (PWDs), through her resilience and creative spirit.
