"Scenic Water Town I" captures a tranquil riverside landscape. Stone buildings with tiled roofs line the riverbank, bathed in the soft light of late afternoon. A graceful bridge arcs over the gentle current, its reflection shimmering like a ripple of memory. Beneath it, a small wooden boat lies moored, still and waiting. Surrounding trees, dressed in green, gold, and dusky rose, sway lightly in the breeze, casting dappled shadows over water and wall. Zhang’s impressionistic brushstrokes blur edges with grace, and the soft palette evokes serenity and nostalgic charm — a quiet tribute to the peaceful, hidden corners of the world.

Zhang Kaini was a Mandarin teacher in Singapore before a car accident left her paralysed from the shoulders down. Refusing to be defeated by her circumstances, she taught herself to paint by holding a brush between her teeth. With remarkable focus and determination, she made rapid progress and soon began earning a living through her art. Today, her intricate and expressive paintings of the natural world are highly sought after. As a full-time artist and member of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide (MFPA), Kaini continues to inspire others, especially Person with Disabilities (PWDs), through her resilience and creative spirit.
