My Kelong Friends

In this canvas of acrylic and acrylic pens, the vibrant seascape draws inspiration from the world beneath Singapore’s kelongs. Against a muted grey background, a lively cast of marine life takes centre stage: flamboyant cuttlefish, striped reef fish, drifting jellyfish, hungry clams, shrimps, and a regal octopus, whose tentacles appear to orchestrate the scene. This intimate portrait of the sea reveals the hidden life just beneath the planks of everyday life, offering a glimpse into the mysteries that lie beneath.

Working under the moniker "The Unskilled Boy," Alex Lim transforms everyday observations into vibrant, detail-rich compositions. His artistic journey spans multiple mediums and styles, from abstract to pop art, reaching a milestone in 2024 with his 500th painting.
