Expressive brushstrokes and layered impasto bring this dancer to life, with loose, gestural marks capturing movement and flow. While the dancer dances passionately, immersed in the music, she is still in control of her movements and body. The rich reds are built through bold blending and glazing, creating depth and vibrancy, while the soft, abstract background uses broken colour and light strokes to enhance contrast. The painting balances control and spontaneity, emphasizing texture, motion, and energy.

Following a car accident that left Zhang Kaini paralysed from the shoulders down, the former Chinese language teacher chose to move forward with determination. She began painting using a brush held between her teeth, overcoming significant physical challenges. Through persistence and self-teaching, she became a successful artist. Her “colourful and cheerful” works reflect courage and optimism. A member of MFPA, the Singapore Art Society and ART:DIS, she also advocates for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities through her art.
