Vibrant, swirling brushstrokes in the background enhance the sense of motion, blending rich colors into a dreamlike, expressive scene. The artist uses loose, gestural brushwork to create fluidity, with layered paint adding depth and texture. This contrasts with the more refined details of the figure, keeping the focus on her while preserving a strong sense of movement.

Following a car accident that left Zhang Kaini paralysed from the shoulders down, the former Chinese language teacher chose to move forward with determination. She began painting using a brush held between her teeth, overcoming significant physical challenges. Through persistence and self-teaching, she became a successful artist. Her “colourful and cheerful” works reflect courage and optimism. A member of MFPA, the Singapore Art Society and ART:DIS, she also advocates for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities through her art.
