This painting is a rich representation of an elegant set-up of a dining table with silk white tablecloth draped across it. A jug of wine, glasses for two and crimson yellow flowers are laid across the table. The deep olive backdrop contrasts with the light, shadows and reflections to create a dynamic scene. The subjects are painted with sharp and clean lines, while the textures of the tablecloth are painted in intricate detail, making the viewer feel as if they were present within the setting.

About

Following a car accident that left Zhang Kaini paralysed from the shoulders down, the former Chinese language teacher chose to move forward with determination. She began painting using a brush held between her teeth, overcoming significant physical challenges. Through persistence and self-teaching, she became a successful artist. Her “colourful and cheerful” works reflect courage and optimism. A member of MFPA, the Singapore Art Society and ART:DIS, she also advocates for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities through her art.
