Fiddler Crabs

Small coastal crabs known as "Fiddler crabs" are recognised by the male's oversized claw, which resembles a violin, making them one of nature's most distinctive creatures. They thrive across mangroves, mudflats, sandy beaches, and wetlands, reflecting the rich diversity of tropical and subtropical ecosystems. This watercolour artwork captures their unique character in vivid blue and red, celebrating the beauty and variety of coastal life. It is a quiet tribute to the small but remarkable creatures that inhabit the edges of our natural world.

Raymond Tan Khee Huat became quadriplegic following a traffic accident in 1993 that caused fractures to his C4/C5 vertebrae. He was later introduced to mouth painting by the late artist Johnny Ang and began developing his skills more seriously through online learning in 2009. Through persistence and self-practice, he taught himself to paint using a brush held in his mouth, discovering in art a renewed sense of focus, purpose and creative expression.
