By Tan Khee Huat, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
Amidst a bloom of coral in soft, painterly shades, marine fish glide with quiet elegance, their striped patterns reflecting the shapes and tones around them. The blend of their colours creates no clash; only harmony. Each fish seems to disappear into its surroundings with ease, as though nature had painted them to belong. Here lies the quiet brilliance of the underwater world, where difference blends seamlessly, and life coexists in delicate balance.
About
As the only son, Tan Khee Huat was expected to take over his family’s drink stall business. However, in 1993, a traffic accident left him paralysed from the chest down, altering the future he had once envisioned. With the unwavering support of his wife and family, he adjusted to his new reality. It was through mouth painting that Khee Huat discovered a new form of self-expression, turning adversity into a source of strength. His art now reflects his journey, proving that even the most challenging circumstances can ignite creativity and a renewed sense of purpose.
