Magical Cup

This painting is inspired by SM Lee’s famous “language-changing” cup. It made its appearance on a few occasions where then PM Lee would sip a mouthful of water and tune into a different language while giving speeches to the public. Inspired by this, the artist created a depiction of four different languages of ”stronger together“ flowing out of the same cup, symbolising Singapore’s unity. Despite diverse races and backgrounds, the artwork conveys how Singaporeans are united as one. The blue steam rising from the cup eventually forms a heart, reminding us of the importance of harmony in maintaining a peaceful, loving Singapore—our shared home.
