By Leong Sijun, Artzillions
"Living History: The Charm of Singapore Peranakan House II", drawn by Sijun. He was attracted to the heritage patterns in the tiles and windows, inspired by Peranakan and traditional shophouses. These complex details carry the weight of history and culture, reminding viewers of the generations who lived in these spaces. In this painting, Sijun commemorates the beauty of everyday places and the emotions they carry. Home transcends mere walls – it's about warmth, traditions, and shared moments.
About
Sijun is a cheerful boy who finds joy in painting vibrant, colourful scenes. Born with Down Syndrome and Congenital Heart Defect, he has faced many challenges, including surgeries and difficulties with speech, vision, and gripping objects. Nevertheless, his love for painting has remained strong. Though he paints slowly, carefully filling each canvas stroke by stroke, he never gives up. Outside of painting, Sijun enjoys designing dream homes on his iPad and aspires to study interior design, hoping to create beautiful spaces that bring joy, just like the colours in his artwork.
