This is the artist's komodo dragon, sticking its tongue out not to be impolite, but to understand the world. It "tastes" the air to discover its surroundings — like a built-in question mark. The painting is named "Lick First, Ask Later" because this is what the komodo dragon does; it does not wait and just does what it wants. Sometimes, the artist sees it as a part of himself in that bold curiosity. He, too, likes to explore things in his own way, even if it seems strange to other people. "That’s okay. The Komodo isn’t trying to be cool. He’s just being himself. And that’s what makes him awesome."
