Within this connection lies a different kind of wealth — one shaped by relationships, shared values, and purpose. Titled “富贵不能淫: Uncorrupted by Riches or Rank”, the painting speaks to remaining true to one’s values in a world shaped by status and desire. It carries a quiet message of encouragement, honouring those who stay sincere in heart, mind, spirit, and strength.

Serene’s artistic practice emerged through community arts programmes, where creative engagement supported her recovery journey while living with Schizophrenia. Through art-making, she developed greater connection, trust and openness. After exploring different mediums, she returned to Chinese ink, drawn to its aesthetics and philosophy. Her practice now serves as a space for reflection, self-regulation and creative inquiry, allowing her to engage deeply with herself and the world around her.
