By Lee Tze Kiat Joshua, Pathlight School
In "Patterned Horse", Joshua explores the horse that first inspired him through its role as the zodiac animal of the year. As he studied it more closely, that initial connection deepened into a celebration of its form and spirit. He was drawn not only to its strength and beauty, but also to the dynamic energy it embodies. Through this work, Joshua aims to capture the vibrant, living essence of the horse beyond its physical appearance, using colourful patterns and shapes to express its unique character and power.
About
Joshua is an alumni of Pathlight School and a member of its Artist Development Programme (ADP), the school's signature programme that identifies and nurtures students with artistic talent. He creates highly stylised works, often rendered in elongated side profiles reminiscent of Egyptian hieroglyphs. His recent explorations show a shift towards a more expressive approach, with bold use of patterns, textures and colour, reflecting a growing confidence in his artistic voice.
