By Christina Lau Lay Lian, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA)

"The Red-Crowned Cranes" is a graceful triptych by Christina, rendered in the traditional Chinese painting style using watercolour on paper. Across three panels, pairs of red-crowned cranes stand amidst blossoming plum branches, vibrant red camellias, grasses, and rocks, creating a composition that is both elegant and serene. Rich in symbolic meaning, the cranes represent longevity, fidelity, and good fortune, while the plum blossoms signify resilience and the arrival of spring. The pairing of the cranes further evokes harmony and enduring companionship. Through this carefully balanced composition, Christina brings together nature, beauty, and cultural symbolism, creating an auspicious and peaceful work that celebrates renewal, prosperity, and lasting bonds.
