Playgrounds Beyond the Window

"Playground Beyond the Window" captures the electric anticipation of departure through the framing device of an aeroplane window. The artist places the viewer directly in the seat the grey wing of the plane visible in the foreground as a warm sunset blazes across the sky in red, orange, and yellow, and the green-blue geometry of an airport landing strip stretches out below. The scene is full of restless, forward-looking energy, the kind that only comes in the moments just before a journey begins. It is a painting that speaks to an artist who is genuinely fascinated by flight, and who finds in the aeroplane window one of life's most quietly thrilling frames.

Julian, 20, is an artist with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who channels his energy into both athletics and art. He enjoys running on the treadmill and playing basketball, where his three-point shots reflect his focus and enthusiasm. Inspired by Thomas the Tank Engine, he brings the same energy into his artwork, sharing his joyful perspective on life’s simple pleasures.
