By Wong Yoon Wee Chalmers
60 years of nation-building would not have been possible without the harmony shared among Singapore’s main ethnic communities. While each race carries its own distinct culture and traditions, what connects us is dance. This painting celebrates art as a universal language, one that transcends differences and brings people together. In Singapore, art and movement have become a shared culture; a uniquely Singaporean way of expressing unity in diversity, and building a common identity through creativity and collaboration.
About
Chalmers, diagnosed with autism at 18 months, expresses his creativity through a unique blend of Chinese and Western styles in his painting and sand art. His talent extends to music and sports, having won multiple championships, including the Special Olympics National Games 2022. Through his online business, he shares his art, fashion, and accessories, which reflect his creativity and passion. While his work has earned him recognition and opportunities to perform at high-profile events, Chalmers, now 20, continues to face the barriers of securing employment, a challenge many individuals with disabilities encounter.
