By Vincent Seet (Seet Kie Hong)
This painting captures Singapore’s remarkable transformation over the past 60 years from a humble fishing village to a thriving global city. The old Jurong area, rendered in sepia tones, represents the nation’s early days, while the modern skyline featuring the Esplanade and financial district reflects the progress and ambition of the present. At the centre of the art piece stands the lion, a powerful symbol of strength and identity, referencing the legend behind the name Singapura — “Lion City”. This piece is both a tribute to Singapore’s origins and a celebration of its bold journey forward.
