Layers of Playful Heritage

This artwork is inspired by the traditional Peranakan tingkat, a layered food carrier used to share home-cooked meals. The bright floral patterns and textured egg-shell mosaics in pink, yellow, purple, and green reflect the joyful colors found in Peranakan design. The stacked compartments create a playful sense of discovery, like opening small surprises layer by layer. The artwork captures memories of family gatherings, and the tingkat becomes a symbol of warmth and cultural connection.

About

Christopher is an artist with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who began his art journey under the guidance of his mentor, Teacher Karyn. Over nine years of support, he has grown from simple sketches to detailed wildlife paintings, steadily building skill and confidence. He has recently begun experimenting with dyed eggshells to add texture and depth to his work. Inspired by nature, he uses art as a form of communication and expression.
