Within the navy blanket of the dark night, the Lantern Festival is in full swing. Equipped with only his mouth, Bingchuan speaks his image into existence. A golden patterned fish-shaped lantern glows like a star on land. Not quite in the sky, not quite in the sea, dwelling on land as though it belongs. Its fiery red fins cut through the air as the green scales shimmer across the length of its body. This fish-shaped lantern is a rare sight, but on a day of celebration, all are welcome to enjoy the fun. Fret not, for each and every one are welcome under the vast blue skies.

Born in 1985 and diagnosed with Hypotonic Cerebral Palsy, Bingchuan lives with significant physical challenges and is unable to communicate verbally. Through the support of caregivers and therapists, he discovered art as a powerful means of expression. Over time, he developed confidence in using imagery, colour and symbolism to communicate ideas, often exploring themes of companionship, freedom and inner strength.
