Basket of Flowers

Using artistic techniques such as pointillism and stamping, Emily creates an abstract representation of a Basket of Flowers. Each flower in the basket has its distinct colour, evoking a sense of pandemonium. Despite the chaos, the basket is engulfed by a warm summer yellow, symbolising the warm embrace of the sun. The sun represents harmony as it shines upon each individual flower for it to flourish. The artwork invites viewers to pause amongst their busy lives, to bask in the warm sunshine and observe the surrounding nature.

Cheng Fong Chan discovered her artistic practice through structured art sessions introduced during rehabilitation and care. Living with multiple physical and cognitive conditions, she has shown patience and perseverance in her creative journey. Through adapted materials and guidance, she began exploring painting at her own pace, gradually building confidence. Her sensitivity to bold colour and contrast has shaped a distinctive visual language, where she communicates through colour, pattern and composition.
