By Tan Khee Huat, Mouth and Foot Painting Artists
With eyes rimmed like inked brushstrokes, adorned in bright orange and white stripes, each outlined by delicate black markings. The symmetry of their patterns, paired with their sweeping fins and rounded forms. Butterfly fish own a natural elegance that stands out against the earthy tones of the seabed. Their vivid hues don’t just catch the eye; they speak of nature’s playful precision, where beauty and uniqueness flow hand in hand.
About
As the only son, Tan Khee Huat was expected to take over his family’s drink stall business. However, in 1993, a traffic accident left him paralysed from the chest down, altering the future he had once envisioned. With the unwavering support of his wife and family, he adjusted to his new reality. It was through mouth painting that Khee Huat discovered a new form of self-expression, turning adversity into a source of strength. His art now reflects his journey, proving that even the most challenging circumstances can ignite creativity and a renewed sense of purpose.
