Zi Liang paints a close-up of a childhood memory, a single tear falling from a young eye at the threshold of a church, rendered with quiet intimacy and emotional honesty. There was no sadness in that moment, only a gentle warmth of the kind that childhood allows without demanding explanation. The artist recognises in that tear a particular kind of inward play, the freedom to feel things fully and openly without needing to make sense of them. The painting honours the small, honest moments where feeling itself becomes a quiet form of discovery.

Zi Liang, an artist living with Schizophrenia, has nurtured a lifelong passion for drawing and developed his artistic practice entirely through self-directed learning. Working digitally on his iPad, he continually pushes himself to grow, often challenging his skills by drawing from imagination rather than reference. His practice is shaped by curiosity, perseverance and a commitment to creative exploration. As both a passion and a discipline, art remains an important part of his life, inspiring him to continually refine his craft and develop his artistic voice.
