"Bao Jiak" — a Hokkien phrase meaning "guaranteed delicious"—celebrates the durian, the King of Fruits. With its rich golden flesh and spiky green shell, the durian is a bold symbol of Southeast Asian culture, evoking memories, indulgence, and vibrant discussions. Through bright colours and textures, this artwork reflects the passion and diversity of Singapore's food heritage, inviting viewers to savour the joy of shared flavours and traditions that connect them together.
About
Sijun is a cheerful boy who finds joy in painting vibrant, colourful scenes. Born with Down Syndrome and Congenital Heart Defect, he has faced many challenges, including surgeries and difficulties with speech, vision, and gripping objects. Nevertheless, his love for painting has remained strong. Though he paints slowly, carefully filling each canvas stroke by stroke, he never gives up. Outside of painting, Sijun enjoys designing dream homes on his iPad and aspires to study interior design, hoping to create beautiful spaces that bring joy, just like the colours in his artwork.
