By Joseph Lin, Artzillions
"Peranakan Blues" centres on a light blue Peranakan shophouse rendered with warmth and affection against a yellow sky and sun-worn floor. Thick tropical foliage spills into the frame on one side, while a small red tricycle leans casually against the building, injecting a note of childhood whimsy into an otherwise nostalgic scene. The artist is drawn to juxtaposition, the ancient and the everyday, the heritage and the human, sitting side by side in easy, unspoken conversation. It is a painting about the layered texture of daily life in Singapore, told through a single, quietly evocative street corner.
