The artist imagined a gentle deer peeking through a field of flowers, and instinctively, he whispers, “How are you?” It is a small, playful greeting filled with curiosity and warmth, the same sense of wonder he feels when exploring and playing with family and friends.

In this painting, the deer becomes a quiet companion in a gentle game of noticing, discovering, and sharing. Gary invites viewers to step into that moment, where a simple hello, a shared glance, or a gentle encounter can turn play into connection, and curiosity into joy.

Gary is an artist with a bright and determined spirit. Diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability, he faces significant challenges in both intellectual and adaptive functioning. Despite these challenges, Gary has discovered a deep passion for art, which has become a meaningful role in his life, supporting his confidence and self-expression. Limited in speech, he draws inspiration from zoos, gardens and parks, often reflecting the movement, colour and form of animals and plants in his vibrant artworks.
