Oh Dear!

The artist often says “Oh dear!” in moments of surprise or pure delight. In this painting, he imagines a gentle deer grazing quietly among bright, sun-drenched flowers, softly echoing that familiar phrase as it pauses to take in the world around it.

This small, instinctive expression captures the joy of noticing something special and invites viewers to share in the moment. Through this work, viewers are drawn into the artist’s playful, nature-filled world, discovering and exploring alongside him.

Gary is an artist with a bright and determined spirit. Diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability, he faces significant challenges in both intellectual and adaptive functioning. Despite these challenges, Gary has discovered a deep passion for art, which has become a meaningful role in his life, supporting his confidence and self-expression. Limited in speech, he draws inspiration from zoos, gardens and parks, often reflecting the movement, colour and form of animals and plants in his vibrant artworks.
