By Wesley Seah, ART:DIS (Singapore) Ltd

This Chinese ink painting by Wesley Seah depicts “Huat Cai” (Chinese cabbage) through a minimalist yet expressive composition. In Chinese culture, Chinese cabbage is regarded as a symbol of prosperity and wealth because the word “cabbage” (白菜, bai cai) sounds similar to “hundred wealths” (百财). The artwork therefore conveys wishes of abundance, good fortune, and financial success, themes often associated with auspicious Chinese symbolism and festive traditions.

About

Once a thriving head-hunter, Wesley experienced significant vision loss due to Glaucoma, leaving him blind in one eye and with limited sight in the other. Despite this, he continues with strength and optimism, now serving at Dialogue in the Dark. He discovered Chinese ink painting in 2015, which became a meaningful form of expression. Through practice, LASALLE College of the Arts, and ART:DIS, he has expanded his skills into ink and acrylic painting, creating expressive works through intentional brushwork.
