The dendrobium orchid holds deep cultural significance across Southeast Asia, symbolising beauty, elegance, love, and purity in countries like Singapore and Thailand. Nicole was drawn to paint this bloom through frequent visits to Gardens by the Bay, where these vibrant flowers thrive in abundance. Beyond its cultural resonance, the orchid carries profound personal meaning as the favourite flower of her late mother and grandmother, making it a cherished symbol across generations. Through this work, Nicole pays tribute to a flower that is at once a cultural emblem and a deeply sentimental reminder of the loved ones she holds dear.

Nicole Koo is an artist with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who specialises in watercolour painting. A Diploma in Fine Arts graduate from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, she is known for her nature-inspired works, particularly orchids. Drawing inspiration from regular visits to local gardens, she uses painting as a calming and reflective practice. Through her art, Nicole expresses a deep appreciation for nature and its beauty.
